Documentary case study:
The Nursing and Midwifery Health Program
The Nursing and Midwifery Health Program provides counselling and support for nurses, midwives and nursing students. This documentary followed one client’s experience of seeking help, giving viewers a way to understand the service through her own story.
Challenge
The NMHP wanted to encourage more nurses and midwives to be aware that the service exists, and how to make contact if they need support. It also wanted to explain how the process works and the support available, so viewers would feel comfortable making contact.
Solution
We created a documentary-style healthcare video production in which one of the program’s clients described the challenges she faced, why she contacted the service and the support she received. Her account gave viewers an example of how a first approach to the program could lead to support.
Results
NMHP published the video on its website to explain how the service works and how nurses and midwives could seek support. The organisation also presented it at a national conference. The same film gave associated organisations and government funding bodies a way to see the program’s work through a client’s account of the support she received and what it meant to her.
