Use a professional video hosting service. There are quite a few out there. I strongly recommend Vimeo, which is what we use. They have a free plan, which will work fine. They give you a piece of code which you then embed into your website.
There are advantages to using a professional video hosting service like Vimeo:
– It won’t slow down your website. The more content you host on your website, the more bandwidth you need, and the greater the risk that you’ll slow down the website.
– It will serve up the right video file size, based on the user’s internet connection. Vimeo creates multiple versions of your video. So, if a user comes to your site and wants to watch your video, Vimeo will detect how fast their internet connection is. And will serve up the best quality video based on their speed. So, if they’re on a nice, fast connection, they’ll get an HD version. If their connection is slower they’ll get a standard definition version.
– The additional elements that Youtube adds such as their branding, suggested videos etc detracts from your branding on your website.
– Users may be tempted to click on one of the Youtube links and leave your website.
Setting up a video hosting account on Vimeo is free and easy. Once your videos are uploaded, it’s also fairly straightforward to embed the code on your website.
This is something our clients and their web team usually take care of themselves. If you’d like some help, let me know.
