TVC Submission & Approval

You’re on TV

So your TV commercial is finished and ready for distribution, here is everything you need to know to get your ad on TV.

CAD

CAD (now known as ClearAds) is Australia’s TV commercial approval service.

What is CAD?

  • Reviews TV commercials before broadcast.
  • Issues a CAD Classification Number once approved.

Why is approval needed?

  • To meet Australian broadcasting rules.
  • To ensure ads are accurate and not misleading.

Pre-Production checks

It is often helpful to involve ClearAds early in the planning process for a TV commercial. Once you have a draft script or storyboard, you can submit it to ClearAds for a pre-check. This allows you to confirm that your creative direction, claims, and visual approach meet current broadcasting regulations before production begins.

An early review reduces the risk of re-shoots or major edits later. It ensures your TVC is on the right track and saves time and cost during the final approval stage.

CAD Classification

Once your TVC is finished, it must be submitted to CAD (now known as ClearAds) for approval before broadcast. CAD reviews the final commercial to ensure it meets Australian advertising and broadcasting standards.

Submission process

  • Submit your TVC through the ClearAds portal with your script and any required substantiation.
  • ClearAds accepts MP4, MXF and MPEG files. MOV files are not accepted.
  • Allow at least two working days for review.
  • A CAD Classification Number is usually valid for two years.

Making changes after submission

If your TVC is updated, you must resubmit the revised version. Your script, storyboard and supporting documents must match the new edit.
