Future Fund is Australia’s Sovereign Wealth Fund. It was established in 2006 with a budget surplus to invest and grow to fund superannuation for the public sector. Headed by Director Peter Costello, the fund has grown exponentially and is now worth over $100 Billion.
For the Fund’s 10th Birthday, they wanted to relive some of the memorable moments and fond memories of the employees over the past 10 years. We thought a simple approach would be best, allowing the employees to take centre stage and revel in their stories and in-jokes over their careers at Future Fund. It was our job the take the hours of footage shot over two days and condense it into a fast paced 5 minute package to play at the end of year staff gathering. On set, we tried to keep the atmosphere as informal as possible, as we were dealing with many employees who were camera shy or who’d had little experience in front of a camera. The relaxed atmosphere helped them feel at ease, and elicited some great responses once the stories started flowing.
We structured the video with 5 main, open ended questions to ask each employee individually. With a title card preceding each question, we kept the video moving quickly by putting the questions as a title before each set of answers. We kept it quite informal, showing some outtakes and candid responses when the interviewees weren’t expecting it, which helps the video feel natural. We cut between responses quickly and looked for common threads with each respondent’s answers to cut them into a mini-sequence. Each respondent was given a lower third with their name and the year they joined the company, which stood to highlight some of the longer term employees, as well as displaying the growth the Fund has experienced over the past 10 years.
The video was very well received by the Future Fund staff and board of directors at their 10th anniversary celebrations and capped off an excellent year for the Fund. If you need a video for an upcoming event, contact us at Dream Engine.
