Spalding is a worldwide sport and athletic equipment brand. They also have many subsidiary companies in Australia, including Russell Athletic and Sherrin. Their activewear arm Russell Athletic has a new range of men and women’s clothing for 2017 that they were ready to roll out, but first they wanted to create a video to show it off.
Spalding have enlisted our services several times, often for different brands under the Spalding umbrella. For our recent shoot for Russell Athletic, we were approached to create a sizzle reel for their 2017 range of athletic wear. We had to make a series of videos that Spalding/Russell Athletic would go on to use to pitch their new products to retailers around the country. The challenge was to create a unique video to stand out in the increasingly crowded activewear market.
Our Melbourne videographer shot a high energy, fast paced video with the clothing as the focal point. Location was a big consideration as Spalding were looking to show off the sweat-wicking capabilities of their activewear range. Richmond Boxing Gym was chosen as an ideal location for its gritty, old-school style and natural light. We decide to use the photoshoot as a backdrop for the video, showing the casual and playful behind the scenes action, as well as putting the models through a rigorous workout.
We arranged a circuit for the models to go through, from boxing, cycling and some intense floor workouts like rope pulls and sit-ups. Spalding/Russell wanted to show the cross training capabilities of the clothing and had created a “mood-board” of images and styles they were looking to replicate. Through shooting with the excellent natural light of the gym and a heavy, film-like colour grade, we met their expectations and the finished product looked slick and professional.
The video was very well received by prospective retailers, and as a result we were asked to re-visit the video and add “Available at Rebel Sport” to the end of the video. The video was also a huge success internally within the Spalding/Russell Athletic Family. If you would like to show off your new product, get in touch with us here.
