Background
Introducing residents to local groups
The City of Boroondara asked Dream Engine to introduce its social support groups to older residents approved for Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) support.
The video shows local activities, outings and programs residents can join from home. It also explains where to find help choosing a group and arranging transport.
The challenge
Showing what to expect
The brief was to show residents what happens at a social support group after they have been approved for support through My Aged Care.
We needed to cover the activities and venues, along with questions about transport and choosing a suitable group.
The action
Filming at the local programs
We filmed a presenter-led tour across Boroondara so viewers could see the programs where they happen.
Filming included Balwyn Evergreen Centre, Trentwood at the Hub, Hawthorn Community House, Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre, Council-run programs and BASScare.
The presenter introduces each location and its activities. Alongside these explanations, viewers see residents taking part in the groups.

The action
Activities, transport and advice
The video covers exercise, Tai Chi, chair yoga, art, books and poetry, life writing, music, iPad classes, craft, outings and programs residents can join from home.
It also includes Songhaven for people living with dementia and culturally specific activities such as Cantonese opera.
The film explains door-to-door transport, the community bus and Council’s free aged-care navigation service. This service helps residents find support and choose a group. See more of our government video production.

The result
A video residents can refer to
The finished three-minute video gives the City of Boroondara an introduction to its social support groups that it can share with residents.
It brings the featured programs into one video, showing residents what they can join and where to get advice about their options.
