Background
Turning SafetyCulture’s Data Rebuild Into a Customer Story
dbt Labs asked Dream Engine to produce a short customer story about SafetyCulture’s data transformation.
The film had to explain a complex technical change in just over two minutes. SafetyCulture’s data team gave it a clear focus: daily data processing had fallen from more than 14 hours to about 90 minutes.
The challenge
Explaining a Data Transformation in Two Minutes
The audience needed to understand what was wrong before the rebuild, what changed and why it mattered.
Slow processing was only part of the problem. Limited version control and unclear changes made it harder for SafetyCulture’s team to know whether data was reliable enough for important decisions. The film needed enough technical detail to be credible without becoming a software demonstration.
The action
Letting the Data Team Tell the Story
Thiago Baldim and Yuna Tang explain the change in their own words.
The interviews follow a simple order: the original problem, the new approach and the result. Workplace footage shows the team discussing models, working at a whiteboard and reviewing the dbt interface together.
That kept the story grounded in the work and the people doing it. It follows the same approach we use for an effective customer case study video.

The action
Showing dbt in the Real Workflow
Close views of the interface and lineage graph connect the interviews to the system in use.
The team describes a data model that is fast, documented, tested and ready for AI. Viewers can see how the platform helps people trace information, understand changes and share work across the team.
The product is present, but it never takes over the story. Our technology video production work uses that balance to keep technical subjects clear and credible.

The result
A Result Viewers Can Remember
The film turns a complex data rebuild into one clear customer result: more than 14 hours reduced to about 90 minutes.
It also explains what sits behind that number. SafetyCulture gained documented, tested data that supports collaboration, self-service access and growing use of AI across the business.
